That’s all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Next up for PSG is a trip to Lorient, whilst Montpellier remain 11th and they will welcome Lens next time out.
PSG move clear at the top of Ligue 1 after a 4-0 victory over the 10 men of Montpellier. They led 1-0 at the break thanks to Mbappe, who was also brought down by Omlin, which led to the keeper’s straight red card. The hosts then scored three goals in three second half minutes, with Mbappe on the scoresheet again, along with Neymar and Icardi, to secure the win and move three points above Lille in the table.
90′ FULL-TIME: PSG 4-0 MONTPELLIER
88′ The pace of the game has dropped slightly in the last few minutes, with PSG still pushing forward in attack, but not with as much intensity due to their four goal advantage.
86′ Montpellier have failed to win their last two Ligue 1 away games (D1 L1), having won four once the bounce on the road prior to this.
84′ Into the wall! Neymar steps up to take a free-kick, but he doesn’t get enough height on it and it takes a big deflection, before going out for a corner, which ultimately comes to nothing.
82′ Another PSG substitution now and it is Icardi who is heading off the pitch, to be replaced by Sarabia.
82′ Verratti is shown a yellow card after he dives into the back of Sambia as he looked to break away in midfield. Poor challenge.
81′ There’s not long to play here, less than 10 minutes of normal time, will we see any more goals before the full-time whistle?
79′ Di Maria steps up to take a free-kick, but it hits the wall and the rebound then falls to Neymar, who smashes the ball back towards goal, but it flies well wide.
78′ Free-kick to the hosts in a very good shooting position now after Icardi is brought down around 25 yards out and it looks like Neymar fancies taking this set piece.
76′ Neymar is booked for a late and strong challenge on Souquet on the halfway line.
76′ The other PSG change sees Kurzawa replaced by Bakker.
76′ Double substitution by PSG now, the first of which sees Paredes head off the pitch and he has been replaced by Danilo.
74′ CHANCE! Di Maria whips a wonderful free-kick into the penalty area and it is met by the head of Diallo, but he gets too much on the ball and it flies over the crossbar.
73′ Montpellier just can’t get out of their own half at the moment and there are some very tired legs out there now, after spending so long with 10 men.
71′ PSG have won their last three games against Montpellier in Ligue 1 by at least a 4 goal margin (4-0 on 27 January 2018, 5-1 on 20 February 2019, 5-0 on 1 February), only Nantes (v Nice between May 1977 and November 1979) and Paris (v Dijon between January 2018 and October 2020) have achieved a longer such run against a specific opponent in the top-flight.
69′ OFF THE BAR! What an effort that is by Kurzawa! The left-back attempts an acrobatic overhead volley from just inside the box and it almost catches Bertaud out, but it crashes against the crossbar.
68′ Laborde is also replaced, with Elye Wahi coming onto the pitch.
68′ Another of the visitors’ changes sees Le Tallec replaced by Mavididi.
68′ Montpellier have made a triple substitution now, the first of which sees Congre come off and he has been replaced by Cozza.
65′ The visitors look well and truely beaten now, they have conceded three goals in three minutes and will be looking to limit the damage now if they can.
63′ It was quick one-two touch football by the hosts and the Montpellier defence just couldn’t cope with the pace of their play, with Icardi putting it on a plate for Mbappe.
63′ GOAL! PSG are now 4-0 up! That’s three goals in just three minutes by the hosts! Mbappe, Neymar and Icardi all involved in this goal, with the trio carving open the Montpellier defence. Icardi is played through on goal and could go for goal himself, but instead he squares it to Mbappe, who has a simple tap in from a few yards out.
61′ GOAL! PSG are 3-0 ahead! Icardi finally has his goal. It comes from another quick counter-attack and the hosts open up Montpellier at the back and a low cross comes in from the right, which takes a big deflection and falls to the feet of the striker, who smashes it into the back of the net.
60′ Mbappe gets to the byline down the right and instead of going for goal from a tight angle, he spots Neymar and allows his teammate to score.
60′ GOAL! Neymar doubles his side’s lead, PSG are 2-0 ahead! The visitors sit deeper and deeper and Mbappe manages to sneak in behind again, he then opts to pull the ball back to Neymar instead of going for goal himself and he fires it past Bertaud and into the back of the net.
59′ Bertaud has been excellent since coming on early in the first half, he has kept his side in the game with some fine stops.
57′ Blocked! Di Maria and Mbappe play a lovely one-two on the edge of the box, with the latter then firing an effort towards goal, however Hilton gets back in the nick of time and makes the block.
56′ PSG top the Ligue 1 table after the 20th match day for the 12th time in their history, finishing as champions in seven of the previous 11 such campaigns and never finishing lower than 2nd place (in 1988/89, 1995/96, 1996/97 and 2011/12).
54′ HUGE SAVE! It should be 2-0! Mbappe is played in behind, but his touch is poor and it falls to Icardi alongside him, who volleys the ball towards goal. However, Bertaud gets a big hand to it and makes a superb stop to deny him.
52′ Another PSG substitution now, with Marquinhos the man coming off and he has been replaced by Kehrer. The skipper didn’t seem to have picked up an injury, so may have just come off as a precaution.
51′ The visitors don’t have anyone in attack at the moment, with everyone back defending, a five-man defence and four-man midfield, which is making it difficult for PSG to break them down.
49′ Both teams are just trying to settle into the game at the moment and neither side is able to control possession in midfield.
47′ Good chance! Florenzi does well down the right wing, getting deep into the Montpellier penalty area and he then tries to pick out Icardi in the six-yard box. However, his pass is well blocked by Bertaud and the visitors clear the danger.
46′ The second half is under way!
46′ PSG have made a substitution ahead of the second half, with Navas replaced in goal by Rico.
Following the sending off, Montpellier sat back a lot more and had to withstand a lot of PSG pressure. However, they did almost equalise through Mendes at the end of the half, so they could catch the hosts out at the back and will be more confident of this the longer the score stays 1-0.
PSG lead 1-0 at the break thanks to a lovely goal from Mbappe, but they could have scored a few more, with Icardi and Di Maria both going close. Montpellier were reduced to 10 men early on, when Comlin was sent off following a VAR review after he was the last man and he brought down Mbappe on the edge of the box.
45′ + 5′ HALF-TIME: PSG 1-0 MONTPELLIER
45′ + 3′ PSG have won without conceding a goal in each of their last three Ligue 1 home games, last winning four consecutive matches on home soil without conceding between October-December 2019 (4).
45′ + 1′ Mendes is booked after he pulls back Mbappe as the striker looked to break forward on the counter-attack.
45′ There will be a minimum of five minutes added time played at the end of the first half.
44′ It’s all PSG as we approach the break, the hosts look very comfortable and Montpellier have everyone back behind the ball defending to try and limit the space in behind.
42′ CLOSE! Montpellier almost equalise! They win their first corner of the game and PSG fail to deal with it, losing the first header and it falls straight to Mendes just a couple of yards out, he flicks the ball towards goal with his head, but it flies just wide.
40′ There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half now, will we see any more goals before the half-time whistle?
38′ SAVE! Neymar forces Bertaud into action, after the PSG man wriggles away from his marker and finds some space on the edge of the box, firing a low strike towards the bottom right-hand corner of the net. However, Bertaud does well and parries away to safety.
37′ PSG look really dangerous in front of goal at the moment, they seem eager to extend their lead before the break and the visitors are having to sit deep in numbers to try and soak up the pressure.
35′ The visitors have been forced into making another substitution, with Mollet unable to run off his knock, so he has been replaced by Chotard.
34′ Di Maria spotted the run of Mbappe early and the Frenchman then used his speed to get away from his marker and he only had the keeper to beat, making no mistake with the finish.
34′ GOAL! Mbappe fires PSG ahead and makes it 1-0! Di Maria turns on the edge of the box and plays a quick ball through to Mbappe, who sprints through on goal and produces a lovely chip over Bertaud, to find the back of the net.
32′ CLOSE! Icardi again with a chance! PSG take a free-kick short and a lovely low cross is whipped into the penalty area and it takes a slight deflection, which catches Icardi out at the back post and he gets a touch on the ball, but can’t turn it towards goal.
31′ Both teams may have a problem here as Mollet and Neymar are both down struggling with an injury after the two collide. The medical teams are out on the pitch, but both should be fine to continue.
29′ CHANCE! Another opportunity for PSG, but this time it falls to Di Maria, after a lovely overlap by Kurzawa down the left wing. The left-back then pulls the ball back to Di Maria, who pokes it towards the bottom right-hand corner of the net, but it goes just wide of the goal.
28′ Montpellier have failed to win their last six games in Ligue 1 (D2 L4), their longest winless run under Michel Der Zakarian. They could go seven games without a league victory for the first time since August-October 2016 (7).
26′ CHANCE! Neymar brilliantly spots the run of Icardi in behind the Montpellier defence and he sneaks a pass through, which the striker sprints onto the end of, but he can only drag his shot wide of the far post.
24′ It will be interesting to see how Montpellier approach the game now, will they sit back and try and keep it goalless for as long as possible? Or, will they go for it and try and catch PSG out at the back?
22′ Neymar steps up to take a free-kick, he strikes it hard and low, but it flies just wide of the visitors’ goal, with the new keeper untroubled.
21′ Mbappe is now back on the pitch, he is fine to continue after the challenge and is eyeing up the free-kick on the edge of the area.
21′ Here comes the Montpellier substitution, with Ristic the man who has been taken off and he has been replaced by Bertaud, who will go in goal.
19′ RED CARD! The referee has changed his mind after reviewing the footage and Omlin has now been shown a straight red card! The keeper doesn’t have any complaints and walks straight down the tunnel. Montpellier have got a long game ahead of them now with only 10 men.
18′ VAR are going to take a look at the challenge by Omlin, as the referee has only shown him a yellow card, so they are reviewing the footage to see if it needs to be upgraded to a red card. The PSG players were furious with the challenge and immediately asked for him to be sent off.
16′ CHANCE! Mbappe is played through on goal and only has Omlin to beat, but the Montpellier keeper rushes out and slides in, taking down Mbappe and getting nowhere near the ball, right on the edge of the penalty area. Mbappe just flicked the ball past him in the nick of time. The referee has a decision to make here, will it be a yellow or red card?
15′ Stoppage in play here as Neymar catches Savanier late as he looked to break forward and he requires some medical treatment. The PSG man catches him quite high as well, so is perhaps lucky to get away with just a warning.
13′ PSG have won their last three games against Montpellier in Ligue 1, their longest such run against them in the top-flight.
11′ Decent effort! Diallo does well to get up highest as a corner is whipped into the box, but he can’t quite direct his effort on target and it flies well wide of the goal.
9′ CLOSE! It’s a lovely move by PSG, with the ball being moved quickly around the final third and it comes out to Florenzi down the right wing who plays a cross into the six yard box that Icardi slides in to reach, but he just can’t quite get enough contact on it. Neymar at the far post also misses it. If they had got to it slightly earlier, that would have been in.
7′ The visitors have managed to get on the ball a little bit more now, but they can’t get out of their own half as PSG are pressing them so quickly.
5′ SAVE! Neymar chests the ball down brilliantly on the edge of the box, just sneaking behind the visitors’ defence and he then finds Di Maria who powers a shot towards goal. However, Omlin reads it well and makes a superb stop to tip it over the bar! It wouldn’t have counted anyway as the flag was up for offside.
4′ Almost! Di Maria picks up the ball deep down the right wing, cuts inside and then tries to find Icardi in behind the visitors defence. However, the defender reads it well and makes the clearance.
3′ As you might have expected, it is the hosts who are dominating possession in the opening few minutes, keeping it well in midfield. However, Montpellier are sitting deep and making it difficult for the likes of Mbappe and Icardi to sprint in behind.
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
Meanwhile the visitors have made three changes to their team, with Cozza, Ferr and Delort all missing out and they have been replaced by Souquet, Hilton and Savanier.
PSG make just one change to their starting line-up from the side that beat Angers 1-0 last weekend and it comes up front, with Kean dropping to the bench and he has been replaced by Icardi.

PSG could go three points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with a victory today as they are currently level on points with Lille, who play later this weekend. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have won their last three games, which includes a 2-1 victory over Marseille in the Trophee des Champions final.
