Sancho made his first start since his loan to Dortmund when he visited the RheinEnergieStadion on Saturday evening (January 20, 2024). Dortmund scored the first goal in the 12th minute through Donyell Malen.
The score was 2-0 when Dortmund were awarded a penalty in the 58th minute after Sancho was brought down in the penalty area. This started the penalty fight between Sancho and Fuellkrug.
Fuellkrug immediately took the ball as a penalty taker, but Sancho came up to him and said: “Give me the ball! Give me the ball!”
Unfortunately, Sancho's request was rejected by Fuellkrug, who still scored the penalty and gave Dortmund a 2-0 lead. Dortmund eventually won 4-0 after Malen scored his second goal and Youssoufa Moukoko scored the final goal.
Sancho himself only played 66 minutes before being replaced by Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. After the game, Fuellkrug admitted that Sancho had actually asked him for a penalty, but the dispute was quickly resolved.
“He asked me if I could take a penalty. I said, ‘No, I'm going to shoot him today.' Then he said: ‘Okay, please take the penalty. Thank you for the submission,'” Fuellkrug said, according to Metro.
“Of course I am the main executor together with Reus and Can. Of course Jadon wants that too. He really wants to score his first goal for BVB again. That's next week, okay?”
