That’s it from me here tonight. Time will tell whether any of that actually counted for anything. Until the next time, goodbye!
Now, on the off-chance that Liverpool actually have to earn their way into continental competition next season, their chances took a hit tonight. Two dropped points leaves them sixth, two points behind West Ham in fourth. Chelsea are a point ahead of them in fifth with a game in hand. Leeds remain 10th but go level on points with another Super League behemoth, Arsenal, who are ninth in the table.
Well well! Super League heavyweights Liverpool are held by newly promoted Leeds, and it’s a well-deserved draw. Klopp’s side were well on top in the first half and led at the break after Alexander-Arnold teed up Mane for a tap-in, but they failed to put the game to bed while on top and Leeds fought their way back. Bamford hit the bar and Roberts blasted a golden chance straight at Alisson, but Llorente headed in his first Leeds goal from a corner with three minutes to play. Just imagine the reaction if the fans had been in!
90′ + 5′ FULL-TIME: LEEDS 1-1 LIVERPOOL
90′ + 4′ Llorente looks to have hurt his right knee while making an important slide tackle on Salah as he looked to get clear. The Egyptian may have landed on him as he jumped the challenge, but there was no malice.
90′ + 2′ Firmino slips the ball through to Oxlade-Chamberlain in the area but he can’t get it out of his feet and Meslier easily saves his weak shot on goal. That was a good chance to win it.
90′ + 1′ Four minutes of stoppage time.
90′ + 1′ Alisson passes the ball straight out to Poveda on the right but he wastes the opportunity by holding onto the ball. Bamford looked to be wide open in the middle but in the end, the young winger is closed down and a foul is given against him.
90′ Leeds have now scored 50 and conceded 50 goals in the Premier League this season.
89′ Leeds have deserved their equaliser. They haven’t been all over Liverpool by any means but after a quiet first half, they have been much improved since the break and have had the better chances.
87′ Harrison deserves real credit for the assist; that was an excellent corner kick.
87′ GOOOALLL! LLORENTE FOR LEEDS, IT’S 1-1! Harrison bends in a great inswinging corner from the right, and Llorente gets between Kabak and Firmino to head home from six yards.
86′ Hernandez is on for Leeds, replacing Roberts.
85′ Thiago lifts a ball over the top for Salah on the counter. He gets beyond the last line of defence but scuffs his finish, shooting across goal and wide to the right.
84′ Alexander-Arnold stretches to flick an outside-of-the-boot pass forward to Salah down the right, but Phillips does well to hold him off and shepherd the ball behind for a goal kick.
82′ Well into the final 10 minutes now. Leeds have improved in the second half but haven’t made their chances pay. Will they get another?
81′ Klopp shuffles his pack once again. Oxlade-Chamberlain will get 10 minutes into his legs, with Jota the man to make way.
80′ Meslier looks nervous. He comes out to claim a corner, gets absolutely nowhere near it and is forced to sprint back into his own goal and punch a dropping ball over the crossbar. It’s entertaining stuff, but that isn’t really what you want from your goalkeeper.
80′ Meslier gets his pass towards Dallas all wrong and Salah brings it down just outside the area. He comes forward and looks to finish but Struijk makes a vital block.
79′ Another Leeds change. Alioski off, Klich on.
77′ Another big save from Alisson! Poveda finds Roberts in space in the area as Kabak slips, but Roberts goes for power rather than placement and Alisson is able to tip it wide. He had plenty of time to pick his spot there. That really should be 1-1.
75′ Off the bar! Ayling picks out Bamford at the edge of the area. He takes a delightful touch and lifts a delicate left-footed lob over Alisson, but it cannons back off the woodwork. That would have been a really lovely goal.
73′ Bamford looks to pick out the run of Poveda on the right but Kabak cuts it out.
71′ The goalscorer Mane is off as Klopp makes his first change. Jota moves over to the left, and Salah comes on on the right.
70′ Poveda skips away from one man at the edge of the area but can’t get around Firmino, who had dropped back to help out in defence with Leeds applying some pressure.
69′ That’s Leeds’ best chance so far! Roberts makes Wijnaldum look silly with some quick feet at the left side of the area. He slips it through to Harrison, and Alisson does really well to charge out and smother his attempted finish.
67′ Leeds make their first change, Poveda coming on for Costa.
67′ Phillips gets a free-kick in a nice position on the right. He whips a teasing ball in across the face of goal but it’s too far ahead of the onrushing Leeds forwards and spins behind.
65′ Jota slips Robertson in to the left of the area but Llorente again gets across to intercept.
64′ Roberts slides a nice reverse pass through to Harrison on the left but he rushes his first-time cross and it soars behind for a goal kick. That has happened a few times for Leeds tonight.
62′ Leeds have had 71 per cent of possession in the second half so far, and have looked more threatening than they did in the first.
60′ That was a real chance! A corner comes in from the left and Bamford heads it down, but Costa can’t react quickly enough to turn it in. VAR might have found him to have been offside, but he will be disappointed to have smashed his shot over the crossbar.
59′ There’s a check for handball on Alexander-Arnold in the Liverpool penalty area. The ball does bounce down off his hand as a cross comes in, but the replays show he is trying to move his arm out of the way.
58′ Leeds build up a bit of momentum in attack for the first time but it breaks down as Phillips scuffs a low cross straight to Milner’s feet in the area.
57′ Alioski teases in a low cross from the left. Bamford can’t quite latch onto it and it evades everyone as it bobbles through the area. Robertson touches it behind at the back post to be safe.
55′ Robertson takes a lovely touch to bring down a long ball forward in the area. Nobody keeps up with him to support the attack but when his attempted pull-back is cut out, the flag goes up for offside anyway. A replay shows he was just fractionally off.
53′ Jota makes a lung-busting run down the left channel, slipping inside past Llorente. He gets to the edge of the area and looks to square it to Mane, but Ayling intercepts and hoofs it behind for a corner.
52′ Leeds look a little short of creativity at the back, though Liverpool are really packing the numbers into their penalty area when the home side come forward. Missing Raphinha?
50′ Liverpool have started the second half strongly. They were on top in the first half, and if anything they’re even more dominant since the break. The ball has hardly been in their own half.
48′ Decent save Meslier! Alioski heads a cross clear but it comes to Firmino at the edge of the area. He hesitates, waiting for a space to appear before smashing a powerful effort towards goal. It’s pretty much straight at Meslier but he gets a strong hand to it to push it wide.
47′ Liverpool had 29 touches in the Leeds box in the first half, more than in the first 45 minutes of any Premier League away game since Opta started collecting data. In that context, one goal is a slightly disappointing return.
Klopp will be happy with what he has seen so far. His side have been energetic and imaginitive, and rarely troubled by the hosts. Leeds might need to change something if they want to get back into this.
Liverpool lead at the break, and they’ve deserved it. The game has been played at a frantic pace with the away side looking well on top, though they aren’t out of sight on the scoreboard. Mane scored his first goal in ten league games after being teed up by Alexander-Arnold, who has been excellent, while Jota has also had a couple of decent chances snuffed out at the last. Bamford had the home side’s best opportunity of the half but a heavy first touch saw it go begging as Phillips set him through one-on-one.
45′ + 2′ HALF-TIME: LEEDS 0-1 LIVERPOOL
45′ + 1′ Just one minute of added time.
44′ Mane latches onto a ball forward from Alexander-Arnold and cuts infield onto his left, carrying the ball along the line of the penalty area. It looks to be a good shooting opportunity but he opts instead to pass, and it deflects behind for a corner.
42′ Harrison pulls the ball back from the left byline, picking out Roberts in space at the edge of the area. He has time to pick his spot but no room to run onto it and generate some power, and ends up side-footing the ball firmly into Alisson’s gloves.
40′ Phillips bends in a free-kick from the right but it’s easily headed clear by Robertson. Thiago hooks it upfield for Alexander-Arnold, who looks to pick out Jota in the area. Llorente and Meslier almost combine to gift Jota an open goal, but the keeper regains his composure and grabs the loose ball.
39′ Firmino is booked for a late slide tackle on Ayling.
38′ Mane intercepts the ball from a Leeds throw-in by their own corner flag over on the Liverpool right. He tees up Milner who has a swing with his left foot, but his half-volley is always bending wide past the far post.
37′ Alioski is booked for a late tackle on the counter-attacking Mane.
36′ Since being left out of the England squad last month, Alexander-Arnold has now had a hand in three goals in consecutive Premier League games – one goal and two assists.
34′ Alexander-Arnold gets the ball at the right corner of the area again, this time Thiago picking him out with the crossfield pass. This time he pulls it back for Jota, who shanks a first-time shot high and wide. Leeds aren’t dealing with the Liverpool full-backs at all well tonight.
32′ Mane has ended his longest goal drought for Liverpool. It’s his first goal in 10 Premier League games, with his last coming against Tottenham back in January.
31′ Alexander-Arnold gets the assist for a great run and a fine first-time pass.
31′ GOOOALLL! 1-0 Liverpool, Mane ends his goal drought! Jota picks out Alexander-Arnold with a great crossfield pass over to the right. Instead of taking a touch for himself with Meslier rushing out to meet him, the right-back squares it to Mane at the edge of the area, and he taps home into the empty net.
30′ Mane takes a touch in the centre circle with his back to goal and tries a no-look pass around the corner over to Firmino on the right. It flies straight out of play. Should have looked.
28′ Meslier takes his time on the ball and almost plays Llorente into trouble, but the defender turns sharply away from Mane and launches an attack.
26′ Robertson lifts a deep free-kick straight into the grateful hands of Meslier. Not a lot of height in the Liverpool front six tonight.
25′ Dallas is booked for shoving Jota to the ground from behind as the Portugal international drove into the Leeds half.
24′ Close! Phillips intercepts a loose pass from Fabinho at the back and sets Bamford clear in behind. It looks to be a great chance but Bamford’s first touch lets him down. Fabinho manages to get back and make a recovering tackle, sliding the ball past Alisson and just wide of the post.
23′ Firmino has looked sharp in the build-up so far tonight. He looks for a one-two with Jota and, though he’s blocked off before he can collect the return pass, he showed a lovely touch to poke it through a defender’s legs.
21′ Ooh! Harrison swings in a low cross from the left. Kabak gets ahead of Bamford but slices his clearance, and is relieved to see it spin across the face of goal and wide for a corner.
20′ The resulting corner bounces clear off Mane’s arm and the whistle goes for handball.
19′ That looked a real chance for Liverpool. Leeds are struggling to cope with their attacking play. Jota gets the ball at the left side of the area and comes inside onto his right foot, but Llorente steps across to make a tackle just as the forward was looking to pull the trigger.
17′ Firmino picks up the ball on the left and, with Milner overlapping to one side, cuts inside onto his right foot. He curls a shot at goal from range but it’s an easy catch for Meslier, the ball nestling snugly into his midriff.
15′ A ‘#SayNoToSuperLeague’ banner has been flown over the stadium already this evening, and somebody is apparently now stood outside Elland Road playing ABBA’s ‘Money, Money, Money’ on a trombone.
14′ Alioski makes a great sliding challenge at the corner of the six-yard box to deny Jota a shooting opportunity after he turned around Struijk.
13′ Harrison picks out Bamford in space from a deep free-kick on the left. The striker goes first time and scuffs his shot wide to the right of goal, but the offside flag goes up anyway.
11′ Jota and Thiago combine on the halfway line to foul Dallas, hero of the win over Manchester City. The game has been played at a good pace in the opening 10 minutes.
9′ Costa shows a lovely piece of footwork to hold onto the ball at the edge of the Liverpool area but Kabak eventually manages to get a foot in and carry it clear.
8′ Fabinho goes on a run and gets all the way into the Leeds penalty area. He can’t quite pick out Firmino, but the ball almost breaks to Mane before Llorente gets across to clear.
7′ Mane plays a perfect pass through to Robertson on the overlap. The left-back has plenty of time to look up and pick out a team-mate but his attempted pull-back is cut out at the edge of the area.
6′ Leeds get forward for the first time down the right. Roberts does well to keep the ball in by the touchline but his cross skews straight behind for a goal kick.
5′ Thiago skips around Phillips and unleashes a powerful right-footed effort from range. It’s straight at Meslier but it does seem to wobble in the air, and the young goalkeeper tips it over for a corner.
3′ Alexander-Arnold picks out Firmino in the right channel. He gets to the ball before the onrushing Meslier, but can’t lift the ball over the keeper and it bobbles behind for a goal kick.
2′ Phillips bundles Thiago over on the halfway line early on. Letting him know he’s there, as they say.
The players are on their way out onto the pitch, and kick-off is only moments away.
Leeds have only won one of their last 11 home games against Liverpool in all competitions – a 4-3 victory back in November 2000, with Mark Viduka scoring all four for the hosts.
Leeds make two changes from the side which beat Manchester City a little over a week ago. Raphinha and Liam Cooper drop out of the squad, with Harrison and Struijk coming into the starting XI in their place. Salah drops to the bench for the visitors, with Jota and Thiago among the starters.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds returned to the Premier League in dramatic fashion when they travelled to Anfield on the opening day of the season. That pulsating encounter ended in a dramatic 4-3 win for Jurgen Klopp’s side. A lot has happened since then, but here’s hoping things are just as entertaining tonight. Leeds are warming up in shirts reading: “UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: EARN IT. FOOTBALL IS FOR THE FANS”, making their feelings on the day’s events very clear.
